Pierria Henry Receives 4-Year Suspension from FIBA for Anti-Doping Violation

Very harsh sanction for Pierria Henry. The still player of Baskonia has been punished by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with a 48-month suspension (four years) for having used a “prohibited method” to pass an anti-doping control, based on article 2.2 of the ADR (anti-doping regulation). This is the maximum penalty provided for in the regulations for concealment when the doping substance is not known. The FIBA ​​sanction prevents him from participating in official matches or being transferred.

One of the actions classified as a prohibited method is “manipulation, or attempted manipulation, to alter the integrity and validity of the samples collected during anti-doping control.”

Henry still belongs to the discipline of Baskonia, which suspended its contract in January 2023 when the case became known. All this time, both the club and the American player have been waiting for FIBA’s decision. Baskonia specified at the time that Henry was not accused of having consumed any prohibited substance but for a procedural matter of evidence.

Henry came to European basketball in 2015 with the Georgian Vita Tiblisi and then went through the German Ratiopharm Ulm, the Israeli Hapoel Eilat, the Turkish Tofas Bursa and the Russian UNICS Kazan before signing for Baskonia in the summer of 2019.
