BVB return that no one believed in
Mateu Morey has been out for a total of almost three years since his move to Borussia Dortmund. But after another comeback in the training camp in Marbella, this time he is closer than ever before.

The most unlucky person at Borussia Dortmund in recent years is back on the pitch after almost two years of absence. Since moving to BVB in 2019, he has been out for a total of 925 (!) days – almost three years! There is currently no sign of a lack of competition practice with Morey.

On August 13, 2022, Morey made his last competitive appearance to date. In the 3rd league for Dortmund II he was on the pitch in the first half. His comeback was also his last game in black and yellow for the time being.
Another knee operation followed – and another entry in his lengthy medical file: cruciate ligament rupture, operations, muscle fiber tears, knee injuries, and many more. He’s been on the verge of returning so many times. In the end, however, his lack of health kept setting him back.

Morey was all the happier after his comeback in Marbella: “I’m very happy. After such a long time, what I need more than anything else is playing minutes again. I have a super good feeling. If I stay injury-free, I will give everything for the team and work hard,” said the 23-year-old, beaming from ear to ear. This time it should really work!
Edin Terzic is also overjoyed that Mateu Morey is back. The BVB coach recently attested to his excellent form and gave special praise: “You didn’t notice that there were two years between his last appearance.” Nevertheless, Terzic wants to take it easy: “We have to watch out for him,” warns Terzic – knowing full well how important Morey can be to his team.
BVB brought in model professional Morey as a promising talent
In 2019 he moved to BVB from Barca’s youth team as a promising full-back talent. In Dortmund he immediately showed what he was made of: fine technique, great offensive drive, strong in tackles, fast. Its market value shot from 300,000 euros to 7 million euros.
Morey made a significant contribution to the 2021 cup victory, even if he was not used in the final – due to injury, of course.

Previously, Morey experienced his sporting low point: In the semi-final of the DFB Cup against Holstein Kiel (5-0), he hyperextended his knee during a running duel without the opponent’s influence and then rolled on the grass screaming in pain. Diagnosis: Total knee damage.
In the previous games, Morey was placed on the right defensive side. The Spaniard has everything that characterizes a full-back.
His contract expires in the summer. It is unclear whether it will be extended. That mainly depends on how long he stays injury-free. Because one thing is clear: If Morey is and stays fit, the worst unlucky player in recent years is an exceptional player who they can really use in Dortmund.
