We would like to express our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, and extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected, their families, and everyone involved. We also pray for the safety of everyone in the affected areas and for the earliest possible recovery.

This earthquake is said to be a once-in-4000-year earthquake. Aftershocks continue and we cannot let our guard down. Rescue operations are having difficulties, and the team staff of the disaster medical assistance team “DMAT” (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) in the Noto region appear to be extremely fatigued.

I gave a lecture at the Ishikawa Prefecture Acupuncturist Association last February about the aftereffects of the coronavirus. I have given lectures twice in the past. Teachers from Wajima, Shiga Town, and Nakanoto Town who participated in the lecture were affected by the disaster. Currently, at the request of the DMAT Headquarters and Ishikawa Prefecture DMAT, the Ishikawa Prefecture Acupuncturist Association, after coordinating with Ishikawa Prefecture, is working jointly with the Ishikawa Prefecture Acupuncturist and Massage Association to implement disaster medical care measures at the prefectural office from January 9th (Tuesday). In a room near the headquarters, we provide acupuncture and massage treatments to DMAT members, firefighters, the Self-Defense Forces, and medical personnel from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This also applies to medical personnel who have returned to the prefectural office from the field.

It is said that about 20 people use it every day. Since it has been well-received by doctors and nurses at the DMAT headquarters in Tokyo, members are volunteering for free, thinking that it will lead to the spread of acupuncture. Approximately five people per shift provide medical treatment, and there are four beds. Support for disaster victims is very important, but support activities for supporters are also important in creating sustainable support for disaster victims. Activities at the prefectural office room will continue until February 2nd, and from February onwards, activities will take place at evacuation centers.

Ishikawa Prefecture does not pay for the activities, so we are hoping that the Nippon Foundation and acupuncture organizations will provide support.

Therefore, I decided to make a small personal donation to support the members of the Ishikawa Prefecture Acupuncturist Association, who are working to support disaster victims and DMAT, which supports disaster victims. If you are a patient of our hospital and agree with this cause, please donate and we will send the money to the Acupuncturist Association. A donation box will be set up, so we appreciate your cooperation. We would like to make the first remittance approximately one month from January 23, 2024 (Tuesday).

The Ishikawa Prefecture Acupuncturist Association is a public interest incorporated association. The chairman is Hisashi Sadaike. I informed Chairman Sadaike of this fact. Regarding donations, we will display the receipt of the donation amount in the hospital and report it on our website.

Fundraising activities will begin for the Chofu main hospital on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, and for the Fuchu branch on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
