Jill Trenz: A Force to be Reckoned with in Judo and Ju-Jutsu

She won the German Police Championship in Judo and Ju-Jutsu

Speyer. Speyer judoka Jill Trenz can look back on an extremely successful year in 2023. She won the German Police Championship in Judo and Ju-Jutsu and took second place at the German Cup Championship. In the Bundesliga, JSV became runner-up and only had two fights throughout the season. In the play-offs she even defeated the German number two Agathe Schmidt with Ippon.

This track record has now been rewarded with an invitation to the preparatory course for the European Police Championships. The strong performances this year seamlessly follow on from the previous record of the 24-year-old, who has been a fixture in the Speyer Bundesliga team for several years and has also won medals in the youth division at the German Championships and also at the European Cup in 2019.

Trenz is also successful professionally: After successfully completing her training with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Police, the native of Saarland is now stationed in Mainz, from where she has at least a somewhat shorter journey to Speyer. “It used to be almost an hour and a half each way, now it’s about an hour – which is still a lot!” reports JSV team boss Nadine Lautenschläger, who often takes her athlete with her to Speyer in the car. “Jill is a great training partner and a great role model for the young fighters who come from our youth division – just like Jana Förtsch and Özlem Gülmez, who also fight in the Bundesliga team and come from our own youth team. It is remarkable how well Jill combines competitive sports, work with shift work and the long commute and is so successful. The pre-nomination for the European Championships is a good success and a well-deserved reward for everything she does, and of course we hope that she will also be nominated for the European Championships in the end,” said Nadine Lautenschläger.
