Christopher Nkunku Sidelined by Injury as Chelsea Secures Victory

While he was gaining momentum with Chelsea, Christopher Nkunku did not appear in the Blues group, clear winners of Preston in the Cup (4-0). After the match, Mauricio Pochettino explained at a press conference that this choice was linked to an injury to his attacking midfielder in training. The French international (10 caps) hurt his hip this week and could not hold his place. His coach could not give a return date, explaining that the severity of the injury has not yet been determined.

Nkunku has not been spared from injuries in recent months. He had already had to give up the Qatari World Cup after a torn knee ligament which had sidelined him for almost three months. A new injury contracted during summer preparation had kept the former Parisian from the pitch for five and a half months. His return to competition during Boxing Day had transfigured Chelsea, invigorated by his ability to find the gaps and be fair.
