New York Knicks Acquire OG Anunoby in Three-Way Trade to Bolster Defense

The New York Knicks know they must improve on defense if they want to get into a direct playoff spot. That is why the traditional symbol of Madison Square Garden was part of a three-way trade with the Toronto Raptors and the Detroit Pistons where they got forward OG Anunoby.

Indeed, The Athletic added that the Big Apple cast also received Nigerian power forward Precious Achiuwa and point guard Malachy Flynn from Toronto.

For its part, ESPN had reported that the Raptors acquired both Canadian forward RJ Barrett and point guard Immanuel Quickley in the aforementioned move, plus a second round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft from the Pistons.

Anunoby, 26, led the league in steals last season; the same one in which he was part of the Best Defensive Team of the tournament. On the other hand, he averages 15.1 points per game with 37.4% in triples in 2023-2024, while being in the third of four seasons within a $72 million contract.

In relation to Barrett, the Knicks are getting rid of the left-handed forward knowing of his good offensive capabilities (he averages 18.2 points in the season and 18.1 for life in the NBA), but also of the deficit he has when defending and his ease to lose balls.
