FC Bayern paid dearly for victory in the Champions League against Manchester United. Coach Thomas Tuchel has to do without two other professionals in the top game against Stuttgart and in Wolfsburg. The bosses are promising new arrivals.

Just two more games and they’ll have it done. FC Bayern still has to play in the top game in the Bundesliga next Sunday against VfB Stuttgart (7.30 p.m., in the WELT live ticker) and three days later at VfL Wolfsburg, then the players can go on the winter break. After a strenuous first half of the season with many injury problems and a relatively small squad, the professionals can certainly make good use of the free time over Christmas.

Especially since coach Thomas Tuchel has to do without two more players in the last two games of the year. Kingsley Coman and Noussair Mazraoui are out injured. Bayern had to pay dearly for their success in the final group game of the Champions League against Manchester United (1-0). Coman, who scored the goal for Munich’s victory, tore a muscle fiber in England.

Mazraoui had to be substituted at half-time with a torn muscle in his left calf. The two join the already injured Serge Gnabry, Matthijs de Ligt, Bouna Sarr and Sven Ulreich.

Tuchel once again only has a clear squad at his disposal for the top game against Stuttgart, which is only one point behind Bayern in third place. It is likely that Bayern will be active in the transfer market during the winter break in order to better position the squad, especially in terms of width.

“It’s a special situation. We’re not nominally that great defensively. “In addition, there will be players from us at the African and Asian Cups,” said Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund at Sport1. “In winter it is not so easy to make big transfers that will help the club in the long term. That’s why we have to find clever solutions.”
