A hopeful view of Europe / Day

You can always do better, but for the beginning of the season, the results on the little-known tracks of North America are satisfactory – national team head coach Zintis Šaicāns and general secretary Kristaps Mauriņš have similar thoughts about the performance of Latvian lugers at the beginning of the World Cup in Lake Placid and Whistler. The team of Mārtiņš Bota and Robert Plūma managed to have the best individual start with a triumph in the Lake Placid sprint, while Kristers Aparjods took the bronze award from Whistler.

“Considering that we have been to these tracks the least, they have not been approached, the results are quite good from my point of view,” Šaicāns, who is in his first season as the head coach of the national team, reminded that in recent years there have been few official competitions on North American tracks, so basically the young Latvian team in them started for a limited time. Only Christer and Candy Aparjodi have been to Lake Placid before, but almost the whole team has been to Whistler before, but only for a couple of weeks.
