One-day race, the CIC Mont Ventoux will not be on the 2024 calendar due to the passing of the Olympic torch relay. Founded in 2019 as the Mont Ventoux Délevelé Challenge, this ProSeries level race sees the peloton tackle two climbs of the famous Provence mountain usually during the third weekend of June. The 2023 edition, the fifth of this one-day race for climbers, the finish of which is judged at the summit of the Géant de Provence, was won by the young French hopeful Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ), then aged 19 years ago, on June 13.
Nicolas Garcera, general director of CIC Mont Ventoux: “Thank you to our partners for their trust”
“The CIC Mont Ventoux will not take place in 2024. We are passing the baton to the Olympic flame which will cross Vaucluse and climb to the summit of Mont Ventoux in June.— CIC – Mont Ventoux (@MontVentouxDC) November 16, 2023
This Thursday, the organizers announced that the 2024 edition will be canceled because the Olympic flame will cross the region and climb the mountain on June 19. “The attention and resources consumed by the passage of the flame meant that it was not possible to organize the race,” organizers said. The CIC Mont Ventoux will be organized in 2025.”
