Tennis icon Boris Becker will continue to work as Holger Rune’s coach in 2024.
The 55-year-old Boris Becker confirmed on Sunday (November 19th, 2023) on Service X, formerly Twitter, that he would continue working with the 20-year-old Dane in the coming season. “We are building a team around Holger to get the best out of him – on and off the pitch,” wrote Becker.
The three-time Wimbledon winner returned to the tennis tour as a coach in October. After a week of training together in Monte Carlo, Rune and Becker initially agreed to work together until the end of the year. “I see him as a rough diamond that needs to be polished,” Becker recently said about the world number eight.
Rune stabilizes his performance
After a low, Rune and Becker had stabilized and qualified for the ATP finals. At the end of the season for the eight best tennis professionals of the year in Turin, Rune was eliminated in the preliminary round. A decision should then be made about further cooperation.
Becker had previously been very successful as a coach. Between 2013 and 2016 he celebrated several Grand Slam tournament victories with the Serbian top star Novak Djokovic.
