Usman Garuba Finds a Fresh Start with the Golden State Warriors after a Busy Summer

Drafting 03/10/2023 NBA

After a very busy summer, Usman Garuba has found a place to start the NBA season, learn and try to settle. With a two-way contract, the Golden State Warriors have given the Spaniard an opportunity. These were his reflections at a press conference during the franchise’s NBA Media Day:

«At first, I was traded to Atlanta, I never got to be there. Then I was traded to OKC, I never got to be there. And then they cut me off. It’s been a long summer for me, if I’m honest. But I’m here, very happy. I knew I wasn’t going to end up on the Hawks, but I thought I was going to be on the Oklahoma City Thunder. But at the end of the day this is a business and you have to understand it.

«I’ve had a lot of communication with them all summer and they were really interested in me. Not just now, especially during the 2021 Draft. In Las Vegas I met the staff, had dinner and it was really good. I think this was the best option for me, to be part of this organization and I am really happy about it.

I think I can help the team by contributing energy and effort, trying to give my best every day. I just want to help the team win and I will do whatever it takes.

I’m excited to be able to work with everyone here. It is a champion team that won the ring a year ago. Of course, there are some similarities with Draymond, I want to learn a lot from him. Seeing him every day is going to be good for me and I am very happy.

I took the right shots, that was the key for me last year. I pulled if it was open or someone left me very alone. “The right shots to try to execute the best play possible.”
