Only 7 competitions in the world have obtained the 5*-L label, which represents the highest sporting level existing in equestrian sports. Crossing the finish line of one of them is a real consecration for the riders, and Pau is thus one of these rare legendary events.

The 7 CCI5*-Ls in the world:
– Badminton horse trials (Royaume-Uni),
– Burghley horse trials (Royaume-Uni),
– Lexington-Kentucky three-day event (United States),
– Fair Hill-Maryland 5* (UNITED STATES),
– Adelaide horse trials (Australie),
– Luhmühlen horse trials (Allemagne)
– 5* from Pau (France)

The international end-of-season meeting

Each year, the Pau slopes bring together the best eventing riders in the world, who come to close the high-level season. Who will succeed New Zealander Jonelle Price and Grappa Nera, victorious in 2022? She should return to defend her title, but she will have to face particularly tough competition… Indeed, less than a year before the Paris Olympic Games, the nations should line up their star couples, but also their outsiders, in order to make their pre-selection for one of the most demanding international events on the planet. A podium in Pau can reshuffle the cards for 2024…

The British in force, the French in ambush

After their resounding victories at the Olympic Games and the European Championships, there is no doubt that the British will start as favorites. Accustomed to the lands of Pau, the English riders will certainly give everything, not only to add one more prestigious victory to their list of achievements, but also to secure their place in the team which will be sent to Paris in 2024.

But we will also have to reckon with the French. Even if their victories in Pau go back

a few years ago, they were able to keep up with their competitors from across the Channel during all the last major events: we particularly highlight the magnificent performance

by Karim-Florent Laghouag, second in Pau in 2022 with Triton Fontaine, and the bronze medals brought back by the French team during the last Olympic Games and European Championships.

The 5 Etoiles de Pau is also an event for the whole family:
• The 4 Nations Tournament: international horseball tournament
• Exhibitor village and gourmet corner with food trucks and artisan producers
• Numerous activities for all ages and all audiences
