In the absence of Manuel Neuer, Marc-André ter Stegen has become the new number one goalkeeper for the German national team. Apparently nothing will change in this regard for the time being. The Munich keeper has to be patient.
There is still some time until the German national football team’s upcoming international matches, but an important decision seems to have already been made internally. Manuel Neuer, who celebrated a successful Bundesliga debut in the 8-0 win against Darmstadt on Saturday, will not be returning to the German Football Association (DFB) selection for the time being.
According to information from “Sport Bild”, national coach Julian Nagelsmann will not nominate the FC Bayern goalkeeper for the two upcoming games. The DFB team will face Turkey on November 18th in Berlin and Austria on November 21st in Vienna.
The 37-year-old Neuer returned to the Munich goal last weekend 323 days after his skiing accident that resulted in a serious fracture to his lower leg. During his injury break, Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona became the new number one in the DFB goal. For world champion Neuer it is also about a place in the squad for the home European Championships next year.
“Ter Stegen is currently number one”
“He has other things to worry about at the moment. Manuel is happy that he is back, so it makes no sense to develop a fuss about who will make it to the European Championships or not,” Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß recently said: “We are happy that he is back. He himself is happy to be back and we have a lot of important games in the next few months, so the European Championships are still too far away.”
Neuer himself had said about the DFB comeback after his return to the Bayern goal on Saturday: “I think that’s a topic that I’m not currently dealing with because I played my first game today.” With him, “everything is “Deeply relaxed,” assured the multiple world goalkeeper. “I’m looking forward to the next games and, as always, I’ll put my foot down.” Neuer commented on his competitor Ter Stegen: “I think he’s definitely number one at the moment.” Ter Stegen recently also noted that the position in Not wanting to give up the national team’s goal without a fight.
