In less than half an hour against Arsenal, Adrien Thomasson went through all the emotions. In the 14th minute, it was a bad pass from his right foot that caused Gabriel Jesus to open the score. Eleven minutes later, this same right foot worked wonders via a sumptuous half-volley which found its way into David Raya’s small net.
However, this goal was far from being achieved. While Machado had just intercepted a somewhat short pass towards Tomiyasu, he sent a long ball very high towards Elye Wahi. Particularly combative, the former Montpellier striker tore himself away to control the leather of the chest before returning towards Adrien Thomasson, despite the imbalance.
Coming from the left of the area, the former Strasbourg player didn’t ask any questions and fired a fantastic curling half-volley with his right foot, which grazed the post before ending its journey into the side net. Author of the initial bad pass, David Raya could do nothing to intervene and avoid the equalizer.
For the Lensois, this goal concluded a good first half hour. Concentrated, they managed to control the Gunners’ play until the opening score, which was not entirely deserved.
