Etienne Vaessen, the home team’s goalkeeper, was left on the ground after a fortuitous collision. The incident in the 84th minute while Ajax was leading 2-3 and in attack: Vaessen intervened on Brian Brobbey and suffered a blow to the head that knocked him unconscious. The match was immediately suspended to allow doctors to intervene, while all the players on the field and the spectators in the stands held their breath for Vaessen.
“We can announce that, after extensive medical checks, he is conscious and has been transported to hospital for further checks,” RKC Waalwijk announced via its X account.
