Three months after his departure from Paris-Saint-Germain, Christophe Galtier will remain linked with Qatar. The 57-year-old French coach will join Al-Duhail in the coming days where he will replace the Argentinian Hernan Crespo, who was fired while he was under contract until June 2024, after a defeat in Asian Champions League against Persepolis (0-1, Monday). Still in the south of France, Galtier should fly to Doha by the end of the week to sign a two-season contract.

He wanted to find a bench

This was not enough for him to end his contract with Paris in June 2024. Fired on July 5, Galtier was the subject of several requests subsequently, notably one from the United Arab Emirates. just before Naples also showed interest. The Italian champion finally chose another Frenchman, Rudi Garcia, and Galtier declined the Middle East. Did he want a more attractive sporting project? Or was he too exhausted by his last months in the capital? He had decided to return home, to the South, near his loved ones, to rest and regenerate, aware that legal deadlines would await him at the end of the year. But he had not given up on the field and the idea of finding a bench either. He just wished it wasn’t in France. It will therefore be in Qatar, his former employer…
