All the members of the Compagnie des archers du Bassin club had their eyes fixed on Italy and followed the results of their leader on social networks. Selected for the French team for the European field archery championship, Viviezoise Aurélie Autret first took part in an internship with the team at Château Arnoux (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Then, head to Italy and Cesana-San Sicario, a very famous ski resort on the other side of the Alps. After official training, the competition began with 24 targets placed in a magnificent setting, under bright sunshine.
At the end of the first day, Aurélie finished in 14th place, among the European elite. The next day, the fencers compete in the second qualifying phase. But the weather has changed, the rain and the cold are surprise guests not necessarily expected. The Viviezoise champion ranks 14th again and qualifies for the knockout rounds.
A difficult draw
During this 3rd day, Aurélie won the first round with a score of 85/84, against another Frenchwoman, Lauréna Villard, and moved on to the second round. During this one, Aurélie gave everything but unfortunately had to lose with a score of 94/83 against the Slovak Denisa Barankova who will also finish vice-European champion.
Aurélie finished her first senior European championship in a good 11th place. A better draw than the Slovak would perhaps have allowed her to go through one or two additional rounds and finish in the top 5…
Now a little well-deserved rest after this exceptional season where she became, let us remember, the French champion in individual field shooting.
