The Federation Cup is always a special competition and, in this case, twice as much. Iván Blanco, Itziar Álvarez, Sara Fernández and Tarekegne Asnake will be part of the first mixed refereeing team to referee the final of an official senior competition in Asturias. “The final is a great opportunity and a sign of trust from the Committee towards us,” says the one who will be the main referee of the final, Iván Blanco, who combines refereeing with being a primary school teacher. “Refereeing started calling me when I was a youth. I played for Atlético Camocha and, in my last year, I couldn’t combine training with studies. Being a referee gave me greater flexibility,” says the man from Gijon, who usually works in the Third Federation and National League and has eight seasons of experience. Álvarez, a lawyer, will be one of those who supports him from the band. “After playing for 14 years, I wanted to see football from another perspective,” says the Gijón native, who expects a final with “a good atmosphere, very close and contested and that will be decided by details.” On the other side will be Asnake, who trusts in “doing our best.” The fourth referee, Fernández, wishes “that the three teams participating in the final enjoy themselves.”
