The Feast of San Nilo 2023: Celebrations Begin in Grottaferrata

The celebrations in honor of San Nilo, founder and patron of Grottaferrata, will begin on Saturday 23 September.

The religious program, therefore, will open tomorrow with the liturgical functions and the preaching of the triduum entrusted this year to Don Serafino lo Iacono.

On Sunday 24th, following the liturgical celebrations, the concert of the San Basilio il Grande Polyphonic Choir will take place in the loggia of the Palazzo dei Commendatari.

Monday 25 September, the eve of the great feast, will see the officiating of Vespers in the afternoon and then the Holy Mass concelebrated by the parish priests of Grottaferrata, at the end of which the Solemn Procession with the relic and icon of San Nilo will unfold along Corso del Popolo transported on the historic wagon, where the religious, civil and military authorities of the area will be present.

September 26, the day of the celebration – which this year takes place at the dawn of the celebrations of the Millenary of the Foundation of the Abbey Church – will open with the Office of Solemn Matins at 6.30 am followed by the Solemn Divine Liturgy presided over by the Rev .mo Father Francesco De Feo, Hegumen of the Abbey, with the usual offering of candles by the mayor of Grottaferrata. The songs will be performed by the polyphonic choir “Schola Melurgica” of the Abbey of Grottaferrata. The entire community of faithful is invited to participate.
