Sprinter Dafne Schippers (31) ends her career. “It was a journey without regrets,” wrote the former 200 m world champion from the Netherlands on Instagram on Tuesday.

With her 21.63 seconds from the gold coup in Beijing in 2015, Schippers is still number six on the all-time world best list for the 200 m.

“As an athlete, you always know that this day will come, that at some point your career will be a moment in time,” Schippers wrote, “a collection of memories and hopefully medals.”

Vice world champion and Olympic silver medalist

Schippers became runner-up in the 100 m in Beijing in 2015, won Olympic silver in Rio (200 m) and triumphed in the 100 m at the European Championships in her home country in 2014 and 2016.

In total, Schippers won 14 medals at major international championships.
