Opening defeat for Raimann’s Colts against Jaguars

The Indianapolis Colts and Austrian export Bernhard Raimann suffered a home defeat at the start of the season in the National Football League (NFL). The team around the young new quarterback Anthony Richardson had to admit defeat to the AFC South rivals Jacksonville Jaguars 21:31 (7:14) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts, for whom Raimann was the starting left tackle, have not won an opening game since 2013. In his NFL league debut, Richardson threw for 223 yards as well as a touchdown and an interception and also ran into the end zone himself again. That and a 26-yard fumble return touchdown by defender DeForest Buckner after a bizarre mistake by the Jaguars offense weren’t enough to win in the end.

The 21-year-old is the seventh different quarterback to start the new season with the Colts in the past seven years. After Scott Tolzien (2017), Andrew Luck (2018), Jacoby Brissett (2019), Philip Rivers (2020), Carson Wentz (2021) and Matt Ryan (2022), “Indy” is hoping for league newcomer Richardson, who is in this year’s talent draw Position four was chosen due to a bit of continuity.

Meanwhile, the highly rated Cincinnati Bengals suffered a 24-3 defeat at the Cleveland Browns at the start, while the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Steelers 30-7 in Pittsburgh.
