It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Victor Sparks of Fredericton, husband of Donna (McIlveen) Sparks. His passing occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital, September 14, 2023. Born on August 24, 1942, in Saint John, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late Melbourne (Bunny) and Verlet Sparks (Gill).
He began his working career with NBTel and IBM. He attended UNB and earned his education degree so that he could fulfil his teaching dream. This was a huge highlight in his life. He respected and loved all the staff and the children.
David was a great people person and lover of all sports. He coached boys in both hockey and baseball, and for a time he was involved with the management of Devon Minor Baseball. David and Donna spent most vacations visiting cities, with their favorite sports teams. He enjoyed his time on the golf course with his special golf buddies. As a father, he took great pride in the life successes of his children and of late the accomplishments of his grandchildren. His hobbies were computers, music, art, and dancing.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Julie Hynes (Tony) and Todd Sparks (Christa); brother, Melbourne Sparks (Pat) and sister, Bonnie Trecartin; three grandchildren, Jack Sparks, Taylor Hynes, and Andrew Sparks; several nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Melodie Craft.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 10-11am; followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 am with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. The service will also be available through www.yorkfh.com (Link at top of the obituary). For those who wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, SPCA or to a charity of the donor’s choice. His family would like to thank the staff at the Oromocto Public Hospital, William Duffie Unit for their kind and compassionate care. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
