MotoGP in India, highlights and results of the Sprint Race: Martin wins over Bagnaia

Martin’s great moment continues, after his double in Misano he also wins the first Sprint in the history of MotoGP in India: the Pramac rider precedes Bagnaia (whom he nibbles away another 3 points, now at -33) and a rediscovered Marc Marquez. Then Binder and Bezzecchi, 5th and author of a great comeback from last place after being rear-ended by Marini at the start (a fracture to his left collarbone). 6th Quartararo, 7th Miller, 8th Vinales, 9th Raul Fernandez and 10th Di Giannantonio. GP tomorrow at 12

THE DRIVER RANKING

Between the Martin’s happiness and Bezzecchi’s regretthere is something involved podium in Bagnaiathe classic glass that the Piedmontese will have to evaluate with his team (half full or half empty?). Martin, third victory in a row, three more points nibbled away from the world champion, so far less explosive on the Indian circuit. Martin, however, did nothing wrong, better in qualifying and perfect at the start, probably helped by the same starting device used up to now by the official Ducati rider. Bagnaia followed suit, perhaps initially fearing the presence of Marc Marquez but the Spaniard (who returned to the podium after Portugal) also had to defend himself from Binder. In excellent form, the Spaniard edged out a second and three tenths from Bagnaia who arrived at the sprint race after the difficult tests on Friday.

Bagnaia: “Second place best possible result”

Second place was the best possible result – Bagnaia admitted -, we’re not there yet the bike is very nervous and Jorge brakes harder. We took a step forward this morning and we need to improve. With Bezzecchi competing with us perhaps we would have finished third”. Predictions only partially respected therefore, because Bez had also booked a place on the podium, having started from pole position.

Bezzecchi show: accident with Marini at the start, then great comeback

But the Romagna he made a mistake at the start, lost precious meters and ended up colliding with Luca Marini – long when braking – at the first corner: everyone on the ground (together with Bradl, Pol Espargaro, and Fernandez). However, the fastest pace in the race was his: he launched himself into one furious comeback Marco climbed up to fifth place (three seconds behind the winner) and this can only increase the regret for a wasted opportunity. On the last lap he also overtook Fabio Quartararo (good sixth, his Yamaha seems to work better on the Buddh International).

The fallen pilots

The race lost immediately on the road Mariniwho retreated after the initial carom, Pol Espargaro e Bradl for the same reasons. So Mir on the fourth lap while he was fighting with Marquez (his brother Aleix did not start due to three fractured ribs in qualifying) and finally Aleix Espargarónervous since qualifying, on the 7th lap.

With the victory in the Sprint, Jorge Martin “nibbles” three points away from classification leader Bagnaia: Pecco remains in the lead with 33 points ahead of the Spaniard. Bezzecchi is 3rd in the World Championship at -69 on Bagnaia.
