Matthias Sammer in the SZ interview: “We are on the ground!” – Sport

Matthias Sammer sees German football “in the greatest crisis”, virtues and a winning mentality have been lost. He calls for a course correction, a strong DFB sports director and he shows what Hansi Flick should do now.

Matthias Sammer has prepared himself well. He comes to the appointment with the SZ with a notepad under his arm, he doesn’t want to forget anything. Sammer suffers. As a player he was East German champion, German champion, European champion, champions league and world cup winner, and as a coach he also won the championship trophy with Dortmund. He gained success as an official as a DFB sports director (2006 to 2012) and as a sports director at FC Bayern (2012 to 2016). He currently advises the management of BVB and works as a television expert. The 55-year-old usually sees the opposite of the successful football that he has come to know and helped shape in his career. Sammer thinks something has to happen now!
