Judo: Last Saturday, Arno Graff and Shila Naumann from the Judo Club Holzwickede were at the state individual tournament for male and female youth U17 in Lünen
at the start for the first time.
Young talent Arno Graff was in action in the -46 kg weight class. He approached his fights very motivated and focused. His first opponent was Kiran Pawellek from SU Annen. Both athletes already knew each other from other tournaments. The Holzwickeder was able to quickly take the lead with a Waza-Ari score, extend it with an Ippon foot technique and leave the mat as the winner. It wasn’t until the semifinals that Arno had to admit defeat through a choking technique. Despite the defeat, he didn’t allow himself to be distracted and approached the next encounter with motivation. His next opponent came from Soest. Both athletes demonstrated technically demanding judo. Due to a small mistake by Arno, he had to admit defeat. Nevertheless, he remained in third place.
Shila Naumann competed in the female youth U17 category. She started in the
Weight class -44 kg. Shila showed good judo from the start and was fully concentrated.
The young fighter had to retire early in her matches twice in a row
give up. Since there weren’t many athletes in her weight class,
Shila was able to take 3rd place. Despite the defeat, Shila was happy about her placement and was able to gain experience.
