Investigation underway into videos disputing death of former NFL player Sergio Brown’s mother

Authorities in Maywood, a suburb of Chicago, are currently investigating the authenticity of several videos posted on Instagram, where an individual who appears to be Sergio Brownformer player of the NFL, discusses the recent news about his mother’s death. In these clips, the man refutes claims about the death of his mother, Myrtle Brown, 73, calling them “fake news.”

Sergio Brown, 35, continues to be considered a missing person despite his presence in the videos, as confirmed by Maywood police spokesperson Carmen Rivera. The police are aware of the images and are investigating. In one of the videos, the man claims to believe that his mother is “on vacation” in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Myrtle Brown’s body was discovered last Saturday near a creek behind her residence in Maywood. The Cook County coroner’s office determined that her death was the result of a homicide, following an assault.

The Brown family has expressed their concern and anguish on social media. Nick Brown, Sergio’s brother, described his mother as “strong, loving, diligent, elegant and funny.” He called on the community for any information about Sergio’s whereabouts to be shared with the authorities. “I want him to know that I love him, and please come home,” Nick wrote.

Sergio Brown, a Maywood native and graduate of Proviso East High School, had an outstanding career in football, playing for teams such as the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.
