In the final, the 21-year-old judoka won against the Swiss Lukas Wittwer (IJF 204) with two waza-ari.
Vicky Verschaere (23) started her tournament in the quarter-final with an ippon against Serbian Milica Cvijic (IJF 123). She was beaten by a waza-ari by the British Emma Reid (IJF 19), future winner of the tournament, but distinguished herself in the fight for the bronze medal against the Hungarian Nikolett Sagi (unclassified) thanks to two waza-ari.
