Having grown up on a human and footballing level in Turkey, with his arrival in the Premier League he says he has fulfilled a dream. Nicolò Zaniolo doesn’t seem to regret Serie A, on the contrary: in an interview with Sky, the former Roma player talks about his new experience at Aston Villa and talks about the coaches who have marked his career from Di Francesco to Mourinho and Emery. And of the special relationship with Monchi. “At Galatasaray they told me that I was part of the project, that I would play in the Champions League. But then Monchi called me and told me that there would be this possibility. I jumped at it because it was too big an opportunity for me to play in the Premier League.”
However, the move to the Turkish championship left its mark: “It was a challenge, a test of strength. I went to Turkey, to another culture, another continent, another life completely. I grew up from the point of view human and football”. The new life in England: “Here the structures are a little more advanced than the Italian ones, the football is very different. In Italy more tactics and waiting and study, here more proactive football. For my characteristics I think this football is better compared to the Italian one. As soon as I arrived I immediately understood the importance and history of a club like Aston Villa and I got to work.” Praise for coach Emery: “In addition to being an excellent coach, I think he is a great person, direct, who knows what he wants and I am happy to work with him. The coaches of the past? They have all left me something: I worked with Di Francesco, Ranieri, Mancini now Spalletti, Mourinho, Emery. They are all high-level coaches, there are those who want one thing and those who want another. The important thing is to put them all together.”
The Conference win with Roma Zaniolo admits that “I will always carry it in my heart”, but also the starting shirt with Italy against Ukraine at San Siro. “It was a great emotion because we won the match, those points against Ukraine were fundamental. A wonderful memory but we must not stop here, there are other objectives ahead.” And he closes with an extra football goal: “How do I see myself in 5 years? I hope to have a driving license…”.
