London –
Former Premier League star Graeme Souness can’t stop thinking about the purchase Kai Havertz. Souness is not sure Havertz can shine again Arsenal.
The German forward crossed to Arsenal from Chelsea after being bought for 65 million pounds (Rp. 1.2 trillion) in the summer market. This decision was quite controversial because it could be said that Havertz was not very bright while wearing the Blues uniform.
Havertz could only score 32 goals in 139 appearances over three seasons in West London. Havertz also tried several times in various positions but the results were not satisfactory.
Even after joining Arsenal, Kai Havertz hasn’t shined yet. This 24 year old footballer still has 0 goals and 0 assists in seven appearances with his new club.
Souness feels Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will have difficulty with Havertz like previous Chelsea managers. According to the former Liverpool star, Arsenal has wasted money by landing Havertz.
“Not all of Arsenal’s signings make sense to me. They have spent 65 million pounds on Kai Havertz,” said Souness to Daily Mail.
“Surely you wouldn’t spend that kind of money on what he’s shown over three seasons at Chelsea? They’ve paid in the hope that Mikel Arteta can get different results from Havertz than Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel or Graham Potter have done? Good luck with that, Mikel.”
“We live in a world where statistics are a very popular part of the game for diehard fans. However, historically there have been only two statistics that have resulted in a judgment in black and white.”
“For goalkeepers: how many games have you played and how many clean sheets? And for strikers: how many games have you played and how many goals have you scored?”
“Havertz has scored 19 goals in the Premier League during three seasons with Chelsea. So please draw your own conclusions,” said Souness.
