Anderlecht pulled off a solid performance at the absolute end of the mercato. With Kasper Schmeichel and Thorgan Hazard, it managed to bring two more big names to Lotto Park at the end of the transfer period. The transfer of the latter in particular took a lot of effort, because convincing Schmeichel did not prove difficult.
The experienced Danish goalkeeper reportedly called Sports CEO Jesper Fredberg to volunteer after his contract with OGC Nice was torn up. Schmeichel hopes to be able to prepare himself for the European Championship at Anderlecht and would therefore have even settled for an annual salary of barely 250,000 euros.
Dupé under the bar in Leuven
His arrival does cause Brian Riemer to make choices, because the trainer suddenly finds himself with two full-fledged first goalkeepers. Anderlecht had already signed Maxime Dupé earlier in the summer, who certainly did well in the first matches of the season. But now the Frenchman has to fear for his place.
Riemer had announced at his press conference that Dupé would certainly still be under the bar at OH Leuven on Sunday and that he would only make his final choice next week. But it may now be postponed, because Sudpresse reports that Schmeichel was injured during training on Saturday.
Schmeichel unsure
The 36-year-old is therefore highly uncertain for the trip to Leuven, where Colin Coosemans is ready to take his place on the bench. The number three would normally be under the bar on Saturday at RSCA Futures against Patro Eisden, but that did not happen in the end.
Only on Sunday would it become clear exactly what injury Schmeichel is suffering from and how long he will therefore be out of action. In any case, it is not an ideal start to his period at Anderlecht, where he signed until the end of the season.
