Jasmine Paolini’s journey ends in the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. But the last two weeks have changed Tuscany’s horizons, who in Toronto played the first eighth in a WTA 1000 and in Ohio the first quarter in this category of tournaments. She lost 6-3 6-2 to world No. 7 Cori Gauff, after leading by a break at the start of both sets. And from Monday she will be among the top 35 in the world for the first time.
Gauff, the teenager with the most matches won in the WTA 1000, reached her third semifinal in these tournaments after the Internazionali BNL d’Italia 2021 and Dubai 2023.
