The Dutch hockey players will travel to Mönchengladbach this month without Seve van Ass for the European Hockey Championship. The 213-time international has fallen outside the selection of national coach Jeroen Delmee.

Compared to the selection that won bronze at the World Cup in January, Van Ass (HGC) and Teun Beins (Bloemendaal) are the two internationals that are missing. Joep de Mol and Duco Telgenkamp take their place in the European Championship selection.

In addition to Van Ass and Beins, Max de Bie (Orange-Red), Jasper Brinkman (Bloemendaal), Boris Burkhardt (Amsterdam), Floris Middendorp (Amsterdam) and Pepijn Reyenga (Den Bosch) dropped out at the last minute.

“There are really many more who deserve it,” says Delmee. “It was really hard to make the right choices, but we think with this selection we have the best chance to defend our title at the moment.”

Still uncertain whether goalkeeper Blaak will come along

Delmee previously announced that Bloemendaal keeper Maurits Visser is the intended first goalkeeper. The national coach has not yet made a choice about the second keeper. That will be Pirmin Blaak or Derk Meijer.

The 35-year-old Blaak was the first goalkeeper in recent years and at the World Cup in January. The fact that no choice has yet been made about his presence has to do with the birth of his child.

The European Championship starts on August 18 and lasts until August 27. Both men and women appear in Germany at the tournament as defending champions.
