Marileidy Paulino advances to the world final of 400 meters

The Dominican Marileidy Paulino was confirmed once again as the favorite of the 400 meters of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, qualifying this Monday for the final with the second best time of the round (49.54).

Paulino, 26, dominated his series with a time that was only surpassed in the semifinals by the Polish Natalia Kaczmarek (49.50).

On Wednesday, in the final, Paulino has everything in her favor to seek her first individual world title, after having already been world champion last year with the mixed 4×400 meter relay from the Dominican Republic.

It was at the Eugene World Cup, where Paulino was silver in the 400 meters, the same as a year earlier at the Tokyo Olympics.

The other four Latin American representatives in the 400-meter semifinals were eliminated: Cuban Roxana Gómez (51.07), Colombian Evelis Jazmín Aguilar (51.17), Mexican Paola Morán (51.46) and Puerto Rican Gabby Scott (51.52).
