Industrial activity in Morelos registered a decrease of 20.9 percent at the annual rate in April, which implied its worst drop since December of last year, when it fell 28.5 percent, according to the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi).
Rodrigo López Laguardia, president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur) said that this figure is a reflection of the stagnation that exists in this sector.

In his opinion, there is little encouragement to attract investment to the state because there is little space in the industrial parks and in reality the governments do not plan industrial development in the state.
“The state has an industry out of necessity, but it was not designed with a true industrial vocation; we reached a natural growth and we have not gone from there”.
The Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by Federative Entity (IMAIEF) of the Inegi shows that construction was the biggest obstacle for the industry in Morelos, since it fell 30 percent at an annual rate, its worst drop since the end of last year.
Meanwhile, mining fell 14.9 percent at an annual rate in April, followed by manufacturing activity with 8.9 percent.
Despite the fact that the workforce is good, the salaries do not compete compared to Monterrey or Querétaro, which impedes growth, said the president of Canaco-Servytur de Morelos.
He added that the most affected industrial sectors are the automotive sector because production decreased compared to Guanajuato and Aguascalientes.
He ruled out that the decrease in industrial activity has to do in the first instance with the high rates of violence in the territory. He acknowledged that it does influence, but it is not the one that has the most weight.
Víctor Manuel Mendoza Moreno, president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Morelos delegation, indicated that extortion increased, but they do not have statistics.
“I do not have an exact number, but I can tell you that it did increase, I know it because they tell me in confidence; I have offered to accompany them to denounce but they do not want to ”, she assured.
The businessman insisted that Morelos urgently needs a security strategy in line with the real problems, improve the working conditions of the police and increase the budget for security and infrastructure.

For the president of Coparmex, the arrival of large industries or nearshoring is not a difficult project to land because Morelos is close to Mexico City, Puebla, Guerrero and Veracruz; It has an airport that can be enabled to be cargo, thus creating conditions that add up and convince businessmen and investors.
“Nearshoring is a business model that Coparmex Nacional and of course in Morelos bet on because we know it can work,” he concluded.
