The 420 class has landed in Alicante and has done so with the Opening Ceremony in which more than 600 sailors, coaches and companions participated in the Inaugural Parade of the 420 World Championship through the center of the city of Alicante.
A tour along the Paseo de la Explanada was the place chosen for the 22 delegations to gather in one of the busiest places in the city; covering the entire seafront of the city until arriving at the Auditorio de la Concha, at which time the authorities and organizers welcomed the participants and the 420 World Championship was officially inaugurated, which will be held in Alicante waters until next Saturday, July 29.
The mayor of the city, Luis Barcala, together with the president of the Real Club de Regatas, Miguel López Barbero; the president of the 420 international class José Massapina; the councilors Antonio Peral -Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Presidency, Innovation, Coordination of Strategic Plans and European Projects- and Antonio Gallego -Councilor for Sports and Economy and Finance- and the director of the 420 Alicante 2023 World Championship, Kiko Sánchez Luna, opened the championship welcoming the participants and companions to Alicante.
The act ended with the reception of the participants in the Castillo de Santa Bárbara.
Day of measurements and training
The days of Friday and Saturday are reserved for the measurements of the boats. On Sunday, July 23, starting at 2:00 p.m., an official training regatta will be held, where the crews will be able to navigate the regatta field and measure themselves against the other teams.
On Monday, July 24, from 12 noon, the competition will begin with three days of qualifying tests and from Thursday to Saturday the final phase will be held, where the fight for the medals will be put into play.
The 420 World Championship has the institutional support of the Hon. Alicante City Council, and especially that of its Departments of Sports and Tourism and Beaches, as well as the Alicante Provincial Council, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Alicante Port Authority.
