Russian Tennis Player Vera Zvonareva Refused Entry to Poland for WTA Tournament

Russian player Vera Zvonareva (38), former world No. 2 (in 2010) and still active (655th in singles, 60th in doubles), was refused entry to Poland where she was to participate in the WTA tournament in Warsaw, the Polish Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.

“On July 21, the Polish border guards made it impossible for Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva to enter Poland, who was trying to enter our country with a visa granted by France, via a flight from Belgrade”, details a press release published by the ministry.

According to the Polish ministry, the player is on the list of “undesirable” people in the country. “Poland steadfastly opposes the regime of Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, not allowing people who support Russian and Belarusian operations to enter our country,” the statement concluded.
