Reggio Emilia basketball announces that he has reached a two-year agreement with the US athlete Jamar Smith.
Guard of 192 centimeters, born in 1987, Smith is an athlete with an important pedigree who boasts over 30 Euroleague appearances and over 100 Eurocup appearances in his career. Released in 2010 from the Southern Indiana university, after a season in the G-League in Maine, he began his European career starting from Prostejov, formation of the Czech Republic. His was a rapid ascent towards ever higher levels: first l ‘Hapoel Gilboa in Israel, then Bamberg in Germany, Limoges in France, Malaga in Spain, before stopping for four seasons in Kazan, in the VTB League. In the last two years Smith wore the Bahcesehir shirt in Turkey, winning the FIBA Europe Cup in 2021 by defeating UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia in the final and being elected MVP.
In his palmares also a Balkan league, a French championship and a Eurocup, conquered in 2017 with Malaga, a competition in which he was also named MVP in this case. In his last season in Turkey Smith finished his season with 13.6 points and 2.7 assists per game.
These are the words of coach Dimitris Priftis: “Jamar Smith, in addition to being a great player, is also a wonderful person off the pitch. I’m really happy to be able to work with him again after the years in Russia. He looks back on a long and successful European career. On the pitch he is a scorer, capable of scoring in many different ways, but at the same time also creating for his teammates. He has personality and the right attitude, I’m sure he will be a point of reference for our group thanks to his mentality and experience ”.
So he commented Jamar Smith: “I am truly energized and grateful to be able to play in a city that loves basketball as much as I do. I can’t wait to get to Reggio Emilia, get to know the square and the fans. I’ve never had the good fortune to play in Italy and this is a dream come true for me and my family.”
