France snatch victory against Brazil thanks to a goal from Wendie Renard

The game: 2-1

This is a victory that can potentially launch a World Cup. Disappointing against Jamaica (0-0) for their first match in the competition, the Blues have this time shown themselves up to it by winning on Saturday in forceps against Brazil (2-1) in Brisbane.

In addition to the three changes made by Hervé Renard (Eve Périsset, Salma Bacha and Kenza Dali replaced Estelle Cascarino, Amel Majri and Clara Mateo), the French women displayed a radically different face compared to their entry into the running. Very early in the game, the 4-4-2 tricolor took by the throat the Brazilians who struggled to raise properly, the fault of a pressing driven by the lane players. The first chance of the match came from a cross from the right side of Kenza Dali towards Eugénie Le Sommer, but the striker’s header found the gloves of Brazilian goalkeeper Leticia Izidoro (14th). If the top scorer in the history of Les Bleues helped to unblock the situation by opening the scoring (see below), the repeated faults of the French and the hesitations of Pauline Peyraud-Magnin at the foot were the only downsides of the first period.

A second period less attractive, but the essential is there

The balance of power changed after returning from the locker room. More jostled against reinvigorated Brazilians, the Blues conceded the equalizer after a mess at the entrance to their surface. Kerolin’s blocked shot found Debinha, who took the ball away in a pigeon wing and made the nets tremble from the right (1-1, 58th), thus plunging France into doubt. Over the minutes, the prospect of a draw approached as the Blues were messy. The lack of lucidity and the bad choices multiplied. Fortunately, salvation came on stage stopped. Like Eugénie Le Sommer, Wendie Renard took on her role as an executive brilliantly to deliver hers (see below).

This victory propels France to first place in group F. A success against Panama on Wednesday (12 p.m.) would guarantee Hervé Renard’s band not only to finish at the top of the group, but also to qualify for the round of 16. .

In three matches against Brazil in the World Cup, Les Bleues have never lost (1-1 in 2003, 2-1 ap in 2019, 2-1 in 2023).

The players: Elders Renard and Sommer led the way

Despite the reshuffles within a workforce less experienced than at the last World Cup, these are two monuments of the France team which allowed the Blue to win the victory. In the 17th minute, the surrender of Kadidiatou Diani allowed Eugénie Le Sommer to score her 90th goal for the selection (1-0). Always from the head, it was following a corner that Wendie Renard offered a capital success (2-1, 83rd). This is also the beautiful story of this match: long uncertain following a left calf injury, the captain of the Blues was finally able to start the match. France is doing better, and it can say thank you to its elders.
