Of the total of 1.3 billion euros from the national and international marketing of games in the two professional leagues carried out by the DFL, the 18 clubs in the 2nd division account for just over 200 million euros. The clubs in the 2nd league are particularly hurt that they are not involved in the international marketing revenues. In this area, a total of 155 million euros will be paid to the 18 Bundesliga clubs.

The relegation from the Bundesliga has huge financial consequences for Hertha BSC and Schalke 04 – also with the distribution of marketing proceeds from the DFL. According to kicker calculations, Hertha will receive around 24.1 million euros in the 2023/24 season in the 2nd division, around 26.5 million euros less than in the previous season. The Berliners collected exactly 47,641,565 euros from the national and international award of the TV rights. FC Schalke 04 can count on 21.5 million euros instead of 44,230,087 euros last season. A loss of revenue of 22.7 million euros.

Nine clubs climb through Bielefeld’s descent

Due to the relegation of Hertha and Schalke, Hamburger SV slipped one place in the money list and will receive €18.9 million, around €600,000 less than last year. The relegation of Arminia Bielefeld to the 3rd division has financially positive effects for a total of nine 2nd division clubs. The second division is excluded from the international marketing revenues, which guarantee every Bundesliga club at least three million euros.
