PONTE SAN GIOVANNI – It was a weekend that will go down in the history of the Sakura Judo of Ponte San Giovanni, the one that took place in the prestigious setting of the PalaBarton. A weekend dedicated to high-level Judo, but also to that of children. On Saturday, the Ponteggiana troop who wore the Cus Perugia jacket, daughter of the thirty-year collaboration with Maestro Marco Migni’s company, did really well, bringing home medals and acclaim in an absolute competition or the prestigious Grand Prix national (one of the stages of the Italian circuit useful for drawing up the Italian ranking list). The medals both come from the women’s section, precisely from the -78 kg category, where the Cuban champion Santa Romero made her winning Italian debut since February in the stable of Maestro Roberto Sabatini who conquered a gold medal demonstrating a clear superiority in the category. Bronze medal for Federica Faraone, who returns to a national podium after the excellent 2022. With Giulia Barbieri’s seventh place in the -57, fourth place also arrived in the women’s general classification, out of more than forty clubs. Still in the -78 category, there was also the fifth place of Emma Mongiello, a French student who has been training at Sakura in recent months. In the men’s categories the standard-bearer of the day was Brunon Zdzitowecki, in the -60 capable of coming close to the bronze medal with four matches won in the six disputed. Good performances also for Francesco Brunori and Demetrio Strappini, even if both stopped in the second round. Also present were Federica Fioriti, Lucrezia Rinalducci, Matteo De Fazio, Alin Ciobanu and Samuele Vitali, for them the competition stopped in the first round. Attention then shifted to Sunday morning, in the competition reserved for rookies A and B, where the Sakura team finished in fifth place, first Umbrian club, thanks to Ana Lara Ercolani’s gold, Federico’s silver Cardoni, to the bronzes by Edoardo Mastriforti, Anita Alunni, Tommaso Maglio, Federico Ragni and to the fifth by Luca Panciroli. Finally, in the afternoon, in the pre-competitive category (from 11 years old onwards) the Sakura team took the cup for the second position, thus closing a truly unforgettable two days. Now the Ponte San Giovanni company is preparing for the final rush in a month of June that will be extremely demanding, with the commitment above all of the Italian Team Championship of the A1 series with the female team, a competition that will close a season, that of 40 years, which was certainly one to remember.
