Purchase option exercised: Standard completes welcome transfer

This weekend, Standard will close its season with a rather unnecessary away match against AA Gent. But for the club management, the real work can only begin. For example, the Rouches will have to appoint a new trainer and the selection will also have to be tinkered with.

The campaign in the Europe Play-Offs ended up being a disappointment, but in the regular season Standard had a solid season under the reign of coach Ronny Deila. However, it has since become known that the Norwegian trainer will move to Club Brugge. And so the Rouches have to find a suitable successor. Various routes are now being followed for this in the Netherlands and abroad.

Need multiple acquisitions

In the meantime, the sporting leadership also has to consider various transfer files. After all, Noë Dussenne and Gojko Cimirot leave Sclessin and will therefore have to be replaced. The same probably applies to Kostas Laifis. In addition, the Liège mercenaries threaten to lose Steven Alzate and Philippe Zinckernagel. An alternative will therefore have to be found for them as well.

Purchase option exercised

Summer reinforcement is therefore more than welcome, but given the financial situation, the club can use some extra resources for this. In that respect, Standard received good news from France on Thursday. For example, AS Saint-Etienne announced that it will definitively take over Mathieu Cafaro from the people of Liège. The French midfielder/flank player has already played on loan at Les Verts in recent months and now his transfer is also being made permanent. Standard is therefore definitively relieved of his salary and, according to RTBF earn another 500,000 euros from Cafaro.
