The two German representatives each started the European Champions Cup in the Netherlands with a defeat. While the Bonn Capitals gave up their narrow lead late on, the Untouchables Paderborn got badly under the wheels. In the end, the Rhinelanders lost to Arrows Ostrava from the Czech Republic 1:3. The East Westphalia, on the other hand, conceded one 0:13 rubdown against defending champions Parma.

In Bussum, the German champions and the Czech cup winners fought an exciting duel at the start of the tournament. Bonn’s European Cup reinforcement Jordan Lucas and Ondrej Satoria on Ostrava’s side kept the opposing batting formations on the throwing mound in check. In the sixth inning, the Bonners struck first. Eric Brenk – helped by an error in the Czech defense – made it 1-0. However, the lead of the Capitals only lasted one round. In the eighth period, the Arrows turned the game with three runs.

For Paderborn, however, there was nothing to get in Amsterdam. The Bundesliga side fell 3-0 down against the favorites from Parma in the opening round. After another point from the Italians in section three, the score remained 4-0 until the seventh inning. However, with nine runs in rounds seven and eight, the Untouchables then succumbed. The game ended prematurely after eight innings due to the ten-run rule. In the offensive, the German runner-up only had three hits.

The German duo already has the opportunity to rehabilitate on Wednesday. At 3 p.m. Paderborn meets the Czech champion Draci Brno, Bonn has to deal with the French champion Rouen Huskies.
