Medi Bayreuth – Drijencic stays, Doreth goes – Sport

Medi Bayreuth has extended the contract with coach Mladen Drijencic until 2025. The relegated from the basketball Bundesliga said on Friday. “The decision for Bayreuth was also an affair of the heart for me. I am very happy that I can help decisively with the realignment of the location with my experience, energy and passion for basketball and the city of Bayreuth,” said Drijencic. Bayreuth signed the 57-year-old Bosnian in February to succeed Lars Masell. But even Drijencic could not prevent the fall into second division.

“We are absolutely convinced that Mladen Drijencic is the right head coach for our location,” said Bayreuth’s managing director Friedrich Hartung. After taking office, Drijencic created a real spirit of optimism both on and off the pitch, despite the sporting situation. “The duration of two years gives everyone involved a perspective to build something at the site,” said Hartung.

Bastian Doreth will not help with this. The 34-year-old made 271 appearances for Bayreuth, and with a heavy heart he declined a new contract offer: “It’s an incredibly difficult decision.” Doreth moves to the second division Nuremberg Falcons.
