In a hard-fought match, the Leonas lost to Universidad Católica

This morning we faced Universidad Católica for date 10 of the 2023 Women’s Championship and we took a tough 2-3 defeat. Despite fighting until the last minute, we were unable to score points and We continue with 27 units, a figure that keeps us as leaders of the tournament.

The match began at 11:00 a.m. and from the beginning both squads exerted great pressure, disputing control of the ball. After getting closer with a shot from distance by Llanka Groff and a shot by Daniela Zamora, at minute 25′ the hugs finally arrived. In a great counterattack, Bárbara Sánchez fought for a ball and sent a low cross that Rebeca Fernández pushed into the rival goal without problems.

With the score in our favour, we continued attacking in search of another goal and our effort paid off at the end of the first half. After a corner kick taken by LLanka Groff Daniela Zamora connected with a header and made it 2-0 (42′). Thus, after the first 45 minutes we went into the break with the advantage.

Already in the second part Católica found a quick response with a play defined by Agustina Heyermann to make it 2-1 (47′). Then, we tried to set the attacking rhythm, but we were not clear and the visit scored again for the temporary draw 2-2 (58′).

With equality the mourning intensified and we went all out on the attack in search of victory, however, we had no luck and we did not make a difference again. Unfortunately, in the last play of the match, the visitors scored from a free kick and made it 2-3 definitively (90+9′).

In this way, we take a bitter defeat from which to learn to improve in the face of new challenges. On the other hand, we highlight the return to action of Montserrat González, who once again had minutes after overcoming a long injury. Now, we are going to continue training to prepare for the next commitment, a duel that will face us against Deportes Puerto Montt.
