Not on Monday evening. And not in the 34 league games before. Dealing with this fact will be crucial. Heuer Fernandes could be a prime example. The 30-year-old does not look for excuses for his misstep before the 1: 2, for example with the newly laid lawn on which the ball has visibly jumped. “I will never put something like that on the lawn, it is my aim to clarify such situations in the best possible way. It’s my mistake.”
Too error-prone in everyday league life – clauses in Reis and Glatzel
Self-criticism like that of the German-Portuguese is also appropriate when it comes to analyzing the season. The fact that Boldt already announced himself as a coach before this should not mean that the points of criticism are not brought up. Under Walter, HSV stands for enormous and unprecedented cohesion, but he missed his goal for the season again because he was too error-prone in everyday league life. Boldt announces: “We will take our time to discuss where we can develop further.”
Heuer Fernandes should be a central part in the hoped-for continuation of this development. The contract of the cornerstone runs until 2024, the contract constellations for the top performers Sebastian Schonlau, Bakery Jatta and Jonas Meffert are the same. The quartet should extend and continue to form the framework. After remaining in the second division, continued employment is also being discussed with Sonny Kittel. However, the future of Ludovit Reis and Robert Glatzel is open. Both have release clauses. Reis can go for a fixed 7.5 million euros, wants to go to the Bundesliga. But which first division club pays this price for the midfielder who has not achieved his potential in the last third of the season and especially in both relegation games?
Top scorer Glatzel is available for only 1.5 million. There is a market for him, although he remained goalless against VfB like in last year’s relegation. The aim of the coach and sports director is not only to keep the squad together, but ideally to make it better. Despite the greater competition from relegated Schalke and Hertha BSC, Boldt announces the sixth attempt towards the Bundesliga: “We will do everything we can to get out of this league.”
