Gurabo eliminated Juncos in a day where four other teams advanced to the section finals

The 2023 postseason of Double-A Superior Baseball had a dramatic night, yesterday Saturday, with the classification of five teams to the final series of the section in decisive games and the elimination of another five ninths.

The Halcones de Gurabo, Guerrilleros de Río Grande, Guardianes de Dorado, Libertadores de Hormigueros and Poetas de Juana Díaz secured their place in the second stage of the postseason, which will have the participation of 16 teams. Meanwhile, the Mulos de Juncos, Cariduros from Fajardo, Gigantes from Carolina, Patrolmen from San Sebastián and Marathoners from Coamo were out of contention.

Gurabo ended the reign of three consecutive seasons of the Mulos in the Eastern section by dominating them with a 6-2 result, thanks to a triple with the bases loaded by Carlos Pabón in the first episode. In the same section, the Guerrillas eliminated the leaders of the regular phase, Cariduros de Fajardo with a tight score 4-3. Marcos Escalera pitched five innings for the win and lefty Christian Torres pitched two innings in relief for the save. Río Grande won the last three games of the series, after having lost in the first two challenges.

In the Metro, the Guardians completed the comeback and dispatched the Carolina Giants with a comfortable 11-4 score. In this way, the teams that occupied the first two positions of the section in the regular phase were eliminated. Dorado, who won three straight games after being on the brink of elimination, had three runs scored by Elvin Alamo and three RBIs by Joskar Feliciano.

In the Northwest, the Libertadores overwhelmed and eliminated the Patrulleros de San Sebastián 12-3. Luis González and Kevin Ramos combined to drive in six scores for Hormigueros. In addition, Kevin Vargas stepped on the plate three times.

In the South, Juana Díaz’s Poets defeated and withdrew the Coamo Marathoners from contention with a score of 6-2. A single by Ángel Cruz gave the Poets a definitive advantage from the third inning.

In the Southwest, the youthful Christian Velázquez threw the entire route and looked masterful to guide the Petroleros de Peñuelas to a 1-0 win over the Cardenales de Lajas. The result leveled the semifinal A of the section to two wins.

In the North, the Montañeses de Utuado tied their semifinal series A at one victory by beating the Arenosos de Camuy 4-3 with a single by Bryan Rodríguez in the eighth inning and the Tigres de Hatillo achieved their second victory by beating 5-3 against the Athenians of Manatee.
