Gabriel Moreno busted Ronald Acuña in the second

Larense catcher Gabriel Moreno, of the Arizona Rattlers, brought out the cannon in his arm on Friday when he blew up Ronald Acuña Jr. in the first inning in an attempted steal of second base in the victory over the Braves of Atlanta 3-2.

Moreno prevented the lightning-fast Acuña, the National League’s leader in steals with 23, from stealing another base.

The 23-year-old mask from Barquisimeto has put out 14 of the 24 runners who have come out to steal. That gives him a 56 percent success rate, the best in the majors.

But Moreno, in addition to his brilliant defense behind the plate, has also been key in the attack for Arizona, which has won six consecutive victories and yesterday woke up tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West Division with a record of 35 wins and 23 losses
The catcher has a .283 batting average with two home runs and 23 RBIs. He also has a .316 OPS. slulling of .373 and an OBP of .689.
