Lautaro Martínez, world champion with Argentina last December, faces a second important final just six months later, on Saturday in Istanbul, against Manchester City, in search of the Champions League title.

The 25-year-old Inter Milan striker said this Friday that the feelings and desire to win are the same.

“It changes little, only the shirt changes. The sensations are similar, unique, because you know you’ve reached the end, thanks to the great effort and work of the year and the team. That’s what’s important. It’s the last stage and we have to give that step to play a good game for the fans and the club”, said Lautaro Martínez.

The Inter striker will face off with his teammate, Julián Álvarez, whom he invited to his recent wedding, but the City attacker could not make it.

Simone Inzaghi, coach of Inter Milan, knows that Manchester City, his rival on Saturday in Istanbul, in the Champions League final, starts as a favourite, and he acknowledged this on Friday at the pre-match press conference.

“We know the game that comes tomorrow and how we have to play. Manchester City is possibly the best team in the world. They have shown it. They have lost very few games. We know how we have been this season and we are proud. We are going to give it our all. We must be very focused. We cannot make mistakes, because they are a very strong rival”, explained the coach.

“The midfield is going to be crucial. We must be in good physical shape and put our hearts in. Be in good shape to run. Your mind has to be focused at every moment of the game and you have to play with your heart,” he insisted.

Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City footballer, stated that the Champions League is the only pending account they have and the only thing that people can throw their faces at, after having won everything.

The Belgian midfielder accompanied Pep Guardiola and Rubén Dias at the press conference prior to the Champions League final this Saturday against Inter Milan.

“I’ve been here for eight years and they’ve been incredible. Lots of good moments, even though we haven’t been able to win this competition yet. It’s the only thing they can blame us for. We’ve been very regular and good in ‘Champions’, we just need to find one way to win the first. It would be incredible for the players, for the club and for the fans. It would be spectacular”, assured the Belgian, who expects a very defensive Inter this Saturday.

The tournament, formerly known as the “European Champions Cup”, has been played since the 1955/56 season and the most successful, up to now, has been Real Madrid with 14 victories.

After three editions, the Champions League final is finally played in Istanbul

In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, UEFA decided to play the decisive keys to the Champions League in the “bubble” of Lisbon, a tournament that Bayern Munich ended up winning. The original venue was the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Türkiye.

In 2021, also due to the global health crisis, the Turkish capital was left without the decisive match and the final was moved to Porto, again Portugal. Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0.
