Death of Léo Vassard, former Interregional Technical Advisor Antilles-Guyana for judo

Martinican judoka Léo Vassard died at the age of 80, we learned Thursday, June 8, 2023. “This man very invested in the associative world, devoted his life to sport” recalls on his Facebook page the league of Martinique judo, of which he was one of the kingpins.

Thursday, June 8, 2023, we learned of the death of judoka Léo Vassard. The Martinique Judo League, of which he was an active member, relayed the news at the end of the day on its Facebook page.

This man very involved in the associative world, has devoted his life to sport. Former Interregional Technical Advisor Antilles Guyana for judo, founding member and president of the Squale Club, he was also a member of the election and disciplinary commissions within the Martinique judo league.

Before being overtaken by the passion for judo and martial arts in general, Léo Vassard was head of military physical training, fencing master, lifeguard and combat swimmer.

This former professor of Physical Education and Sports worked more particularly in the service of his favorite discipline from 1969, when he was appointed trainee at the INS (National Institute of Sports) judo school.

Until his last breath, he invested himself under different hats in Guyana, Guadeloupe and of course in Martinique, his island of origin. Leo Vassard was 80 years old.
