Benito Ramirez extends his contract with UD one more season. The end of The village renew until 2025 after last season he had to watch the yellow promotion from the stands after he decided to undergo surgery to leave behind his pain in the lower back and miss the second round of the league. In this way, the island attacker will begin his sixth season at the club with the security of having a cushion for another year in his employment.
An agreement reached after the player announced the past January 25 that he left his file free so that the sports management could reinforce the squad and thus Loren Morón, who inherited his number 11 in the second round of the championship, could reach the locker room.
Benito underwent surgery in Madrid on February 8 and since then he has begun his medical recovery process in the back area in order to be ready during the current preseason that will start on July 10 in Marbella.
The villager was already present at the UD training sessions in Barranco Seco during the last month of competition and was even part of the expeditions of the squad that traveled to the last league matches of the team in visiting territory.
Before having to put the brakes on his season, Ramírez had played a total of 14 games, in which he scored the winning goal against Lugo in the Anxo Carro in October, at the same time that he distributed an assist, against Cartagena in seven palms when he sent a packaged gift to Viera on the penalty spot after Vitolo had given him a pass between the lines to his left-footed flank for the delirious goal in the 92nd minute and the final 1-0.
However, the pain in the neck worsened little by little in the villager and after spending some time away from the calls between the beginning of November and mid-December, and trying to return to the competition, Benito determined that he had to be examined by an expert doctor in Madrid. So, it was detected that his neck ailments came from muscular impingement of the lower back and therefore he proceeded to let the scalpel do its work.
Thus, García Pimienta recovers a cash for the left-handed lane. Benito’s versatility allows him to act as a left back and push in the competition alongside Sergi Cardona, as well as being able to play as a winger, a position in which the Catalan coach preferred to use him during the first leg of the league.
The fourth captain of the Unión Deportiva –along with Viera, Mfulu and Fabio in hierarchical order– thus returns to the First Division with the endorsement of the club. Benito is together with Viera and Fabio (with the exception of Vitolo) the only survivors of the squad that was present in the last stage of Las Palmas in the highest category.
And it is that Benito made his debut in the First Division in the 2016-17 campaign against Deportivo de la Coruña and that same season he played again for a few minutes against Alavés in the final stretch of the championship, at the same time that he managed to promote the subsidiary to the Second Division B by the hand of Manolo Márquez on the bench.
In the following course, the man from La Aldea accumulated 164 minutes spread over four games and witnessed how the Unión Deportiva fell in category after a dance of four coaches on the island bench.
